Prioritizing Transparency in Egg and Sperm Donation
At ACRC Global, our mission is to make the journey of building a family through egg or sperm donation as smooth, safe, and transparent as possible. Whether you're an intended parent or a potential donor, understanding the screening process can help you feel confident in the care and integrity we bring to every match.
There are three key areas of screening we conduct to ensure every donation is ethical, safe, and suited to your family-building journey:
Medical Screening: Protecting health on all sides
Medical evaluations are the first line of safety for both donors and intended parents. Every donor, whether for egg or sperm, is carefully assessed by a Reproductive Endocrinologist to ensure they are physically healthy to proceed with the donation and free of infectious diseases.
This includes:
Blood and urine tests for STIs and other transmissible diseases, such as HIV and hepatitis.
Physical exams to assess reproductive health and overall wellness.
Ultrasounds (for egg donors) to evaluate ovarian health and egg reserve.
Semen analysis (for sperm donors) to assess sperm count, motility, and morphology.
These tests are based on medical guidelines established by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and are repeated periodically to maintain the highest safety standards.
Genetic Screening: Understanding Family Health History
We believe in helping you plan for a healthy future. That’s why genetic screening plays a vital role in our donor selection process.
This involves:
Detailed family history reviews going back at least three generations, looking for patterns of hereditary conditions.
Carrier screening for common and serious genetic conditions like cystic fibrosis, Tay-Sachs, or spinal muscular atrophy.
If needed, genetic counseling is offered to interpret results and assess compatibility with intended parents.
This information helps intended parents make informed decisions, especially when pairing their own genetics with those of a donor.
Psychological Evaluation: Emotional Readiness and Responsibility
Egg and sperm donation is more than a medical process—it’s an emotional commitment. Every donor at ACRC Global completes a psychological screening with a licensed mental health professional!
This helps us ensure that donors:
Fully understand the emotional, legal, and long-term implications of donation.
Are mentally and emotionally prepared to go through the process.
Have healthy motivations and expectations about their role.
We also use this opportunity to confirm that our donors are not under undue pressure and are making this choice voluntarily and ethically.
Why It Matters
At ACRC Global, our screening process is more than a checklist, it’s a commitment to transparency, ethics, and care. Every donor we work with is chosen not just for their biological suitability, but for their readiness to support a future family.
We’re here to make this a clear, easy-to-navigate option for you! Whether you're exploring egg or sperm donation as a hopeful parent or thinking of becoming a donor yourself, our team is ready to guide you with compassion and clarity every step of the way.
